The Clark Public Library is seeking a Youth Services Library Associate who is dynamic, community-focused and has experience introducing new initiatives that respond to the interests and needs of children. The Clark Public Library's mission is to be an innovation hub while celebrating our tradition of knowledge, embracing the future of mobility, and fostering strong ties to the community and beyond. 

This position is Civil Service/Union. This position is part-time with a flexible schedule.  Applicants must be available to work various shifts, including four evenings a month and one weekend rotation a month. Hours total 20 per week. Must be available to work at least a 4 hour shift between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours will vary when the weekend shift occurs. Employees are entitled to sick leave and vacation time after the probationary period. Starting salary is $21.55 per hour. 

YS Library Associate Job Duties:

  • Plans and delivers storytimes in coordination with the children’s librarian
  • Provides friendly, high quality customer service to library patrons
  • Also provides adult reference when needed
  • Creates flyers and press releases
  • Acts as a liaison with the Clark Public Schools 
  • Manages teen volunteers
  • Enforces library rules as posted
  • Creates, plans, and implements children’s programs, events, and outreach
  • Provides reference assistance and readers advisory at the Youth Service Desk to children, caregivers, home schoolers, and educators
  • Encourages digital literacy and provides age-appropriate technology instruction to children 
  • Participates in the Summer Reading Program and corresponding activities
  • Is a team member who welcomes and accepts input; seeks out advice on how to handle situations, and supports team members by keeping them informed and offering help
  • Attends workshops and learning opportunities for continuing education, learning about library trends and emerging technologies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience with children/teens is a plus. Knowledge of computers is required. Steam/Maker experience is a plus.
