Full-Time Reference Librarian - Cranford Public Library June 12, 2024

The Cranford Public Library is accepting applications for a full time Librarian position in our Reference Department. The work week is 35 hours, including evening and weekend hours on a rotating basis. The library is located in Union County and is a member of the Sharing & Technology Enhancing Local Library Access consortium (STELLA), formerly called LMxAC, as well as the Libraries of Union County Consortium and Middlesex/ Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

Under the general supervision of the Head of Reference:

 

  • Provide excellent customer service while covering the Reference Desk, answering a wide range of questions from our patrons. May act as Librarian-in Charge on an evening or weekend. 

 

  • Responsible for communicating with our technology support company.

 

  • Compile technology and digital resource statistics, including WiFi usage and database statistics. 

 

  • Orders a portion of the nonfiction collection.

 

  • Opportunities to create adult programs and displays. 

 

  • Opportunities to attend outreach and community engagement events.

 

  • Stays current on library trends by attending seminars and training.

     

  • Develops working knowledge of Polaris Leap Integrated Library System procedures.

     

  • Handles special projects as assigned by the Head of Reference.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

At least one year experience working in Reference/Adult Services in a public library environment is preferred

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other interested parties, to demonstrate teamwork skills and work both independently and as part of a larger group.

     

  • Ability to select, organize, and evaluate library materials.

  • Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and files.

     

  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

EDUCATION

A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science and possession of or qualified to obtain, a Professional Librarian Certificate issued by Thomas Edison State College.

 

LICENSE

Possession of or the qualifications to acquire a valid license as Professional Librarian issued by the appropriate department within the State of New Jersey.  If an applicant does not have a license at the time of appointment, proof must be shown that one has been applied for within the first three months of the appointment.

Part-Time Technology / Adult Services Library Associate - West Milford Township Library June 12, 2024

The West Milford Township Library is seeking a tech savvy, detail oriented, innovative, and customer-service oriented individual for the part-time (21 Hour) position of Technology/ Adult Services Library Associate. This position entails technology instruction, program development, readers' advisory, collection development, website development, and social media management, while working as an integral part of a team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and teach technology instructional sessions and classes as well as create tutorials and guides for assisting patrons in the use of technology platforms and databases.
  • Act as the in-library point person for first-step technology issues.
  • Participate in website development (using Wordpress).
  • Provide reference service, both in person and on phone, readers’ advisory, and computer assistance.
  • Create promotional materials using Canva.
  • Schedule programs for adults.
  • Participate in collection development for adult materials.
  • Cover Circulation Desk and other service areas as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the goals of the library. 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Students in the process of obtaining an MLIS (or equivalent) would be considered an ideal candidate. Candidate must be willing to become a New Jersey resident within one year of hire. Experience with Workflows and the PALS Plus system is preferred, but not required.

The schedule for this position is 21 hours per week, with one evening per week and weekend coverage on a rotating basis (approximately one weekend per month). Salary is regionally competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a union and civil service position. Offers of employment are pending the completion of a criminal background check. Salary:                    $25.5158 per hour ($46,438.76 annually-Librarian 1)

Schedule:             35 hours per week - Based on library needs and will include days, evenings & weekends

The Camden County Library System serves over 330,000 County residents.  Our staff make customer service and community engagement a priority and strive to help communities reach their aspirations through library services.  

The Camden County Library System is seeking a librarian with strong computer training skills to provide classes in the Ferry Avenue Branch’s newly created Digital Literacy Classroom. This project was supported in full with funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the New Jersey State Library.   

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  1. Providing one-on-one and group training on topics such as computer basics, email, internet use, and Microsoft Office products to assist residents with job seeking, employment, social service needs, homework help, and life skills 
  2. Coordinating the schedule for the Digital Literacy Classroom including seeking and booking computer programming provided by outside presenters 
  3. Assisting customers of all ages during their library visit including working at the circulation and children’s public service desks 
  4. Collection development including purchasing, weeding and upkeep of the assigned collection area 
  5. Community outreach 
  6. Performing other duties as assigned 
  7. May act as the Person-In-Charge of the branch or be scheduled at other Library branches bases on need 

Education/Certification/Experience/ Requirements:

Librarian 1 requires: A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.  Librarian 2 requires: One year of full time equivalent professional librarian experience as well as the requirements listed above. *Must posses a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate or obtain the certificate upon hiring.

Part-time Young Adult Librarian June 11, 2024

Job Summary:

The Linden Free Public Library is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Part-time Young Adult Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing library services to young people between the ages of 13-18; willing to travel off-site to local schools and community organizations to inform the community about library services; and dedicated to providing excellent customer service to all patrons.

This is a part-time, Civil Service (Librarian I), and Union position. The successful candidate will work approximately 25 hours a week. Scheduling is flexible, but the candidate will be required to work some evenings and Saturdays. Salary will be $35.53 per hour for a Librarian, $27.14 per hour for a Library Intern. Upon hiring, the candidate will be able to accrue prorated sick, personal and vacation time. Ample opportunities for professional growth will be offered.

  • Residency in New Jersey within one year of hiring as required by the NJ First Act.
  • Fluency in another language, especially Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Polish, is a plus.

Part Time Senior Library Assistant June 11, 2024

The Monroe Township Public Library seeks an enthusiastic candidate with strong customer service skills and hands-on experience with computer technology and electronic resources to work busy Welcome Desk. Staff at this service desk answer public inquiries, perform general clerical duties, assist with copy machine and computers, and other related duties. 

Part Time – Approximately 8 hours per week, plus weekend hours 

Education and Experience preferred:

  • Greet patrons and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Collect and safeguard money from book purchases
  • Check in/out Library materials, and place holds as requested

About the Position:

Reporting to the Collection Development Manager, this position performs various paraprofessional and detailed library duties. This position also assists with collection processing and repairs. This position assists with collections maintenance including shelving of library materials, examining the collection for the condition of books, and shifting when necessary. This position is entirely in-person.

Examples of Work: 

  • Process books, media, and other materials for the collection
  • Maintain and update cataloging records in online catalog software
