Development Associate (Part-Time)

Description

The Westfield Memorial Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and team-oriented Development Associate to join the library in a part-time capacity. The successful applicant will have the demonstrated ability to solicit funding for a non-profit organization through annual fundraising campaigns and competitive grant opportunities.

The Development Associate will work closely with the Library Director, the Library Board’s Long-Range Planning Committee, and the Foundation Board.

Responsibilities May Include

Fundraising

Develop annual library fundraising campaigns.
Organize donor events.
Solicit current donors for increased contributions.
Network with potential donors.
Deliver reports on fundraising activities and progress.

Grants

Research, prepare, and submit proposals for relevant funding opportunities.
Follow all requirements and deadlines for grant applications.
Maintain a grants calendar to monitor progress.
Communicate with potential donors and institutional donors.
Write sponsorship packages.
Identify new funding opportunities.
Review potential grant opportunities with the Library Director and relevant Department Heads.

Requirements

Strong communication and networking skills.
Exceptional research skills.
Prior experience in grant or proposal writing.
Experience with non-profit fundraising.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and other relevant computer software.
Detail-oriented.

Schedule

This is a part-time position with an approximate 20-hour work week. Scheduling is flexible, with approximately 75% of the work hours anticipated to be remote.

Educational Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, non-profit management, or other relevant field of study.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting hourly pay rate is $30.00.
Benefits include paid vacation, paid sick leave, and potential eligibility for enrollment in the DCRP (Defined Contribution Retirement Program).

Description

The Westfield Memorial Library is seeking a creative, innovative, and team-oriented Social Media Content Creator to join the library in a part-time capacity. The successful applicant will have the demonstrated ability to turn social media content ideas into engaging videos, images, and text captions. The Social Media Content Creator will create and maintain a content calendar. A deep interest in current social media trends is required to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Creating various forms of social media content, including text captions, videos, and images, that are suitable for various social media platforms (Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, X, etc.)
  • Establishing a social media content calendar, and publishing content accordingly.
  • Ensuring that every piece of published social media content aligns with the library’s mission and brand voice, and helps the library maximize engagement, and build community.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of social media trends and engagement strategy.
  • Ability to work with creative tools like Canva, Adobe, etc.
  • Proven experience in creating engaging content on relevant social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram/Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X/Twitter.
  • Ability to turn a concept into compelling content.
  • Ability to incorporate the library’s identity into digital content.
  • Extensive knowledge of the popular social media platforms.

TEMPORARY Part Time Children's Library Assistant April 18, 2024

The Pequannock Township Public Library has an opening for an exciting opportunity in our children’s department. Our well-loved and very busy library is located in a suburban community that has a population of 15,500. You will be joining a dynamic staff in a children’s department that has well-established story time programs and a successful summer reading program. 

We’re looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic, customer service oriented person to help kids, parents and caregivers find age appropriate materials. The right candidate should be familiar with current technologies, children’s literature and media, and should like children. Duties include covering the Children’s Desk, preparing program materials, and preparing seasonal decorations to make the children’s room inviting. 

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Youth Services Librarian (PT 24 Hours)- East Brunswick PL April 18, 2024

Youth Services Librarian (part-time)

24 hours per week, flexibility to work additional shifts as needed.

  • Sunday 11:00 am-5:00 pm
  • Monday 9:00 am-3:00 pm
  • Tuesday 3:00 pm-9:00 pm
  • Thursday 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Essential Functions:

  • Provides professional customer service to children and adults
  • Provides reference and readers advisory services
  • Plans and produces programs for children ages 0-12
  • Assists in department collection development
  • Participates in community outreach
  • Completes occasional administrative tasks
  • Cross-trains in the Information Services department

Required Skills, Knowledge, Ability:

Library Assistant (FT 35 Hours) - Bernardsville Public Library

The Bernardsville Public Library is seeking a full-time Library Assistant. The Bernardsville library team is diverse, welcoming, and passionate about service to the community. 

This position includes circulation desk duties, some reference and readers’ advisory support, shelving, shelf reading, and other duties as assigned. This work requires pleasant and confidential customer service, use of technology, and a high level of organization. Physical requirements include lifting up to 15 lbs., kneeling and bending to locate items, sitting and standing for periods of time, and using a computer.

This full-time position may include one evening shift, alternating weekend shifts, and occasional hours outside of a regular schedule for staff meetings, etc.

FT Adult Services Librarian (Tech & Communications) April 17, 2024

The West Caldwell Public Library is seeking a dynamic, community-focused individual who is technologically savvy and works well in a team environment to fill the position of Adult Services Librarian. The position requires a knowledge of library and technology trends, coupled with excellent skills in reference, reader’s advisory, technology instruction, collection management, flexibility to embrace new projects and assignments, and a good sense of humor.

Under supervision from the Assistant Director, the Adult Services Librarian will provide excellent reference service to the public, maintain the Library’s website, and provide overall technical support for our team and public.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and updating the library website
  • Creating e- newsletters 
  • Managing the art gallery
  • Creating thoughtful and consistent social media posts
  • Assisting in composing press releases 
  • Covering the Reference Desk, including answering reference and reader’s advisory questions and the flexibility to assist at any public service desk or department
  • Training and developing resources and classes for our team, Board, and public on the use of digital library resources 
  • Serving as the main liaison between the library and BCCLS technology support
  • Continuing education to update professional skills via workshops and online webinars
  • Collection development responsibilities
  • Performing other duties as assigned for an evolving and growing library

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • NJ Professional Librarian’s certificate issued by Thomas Edison State University
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: customer service, reference and technology assistance, adult programming, collection development
  • Strong computer and social media skills
  • Strong interest in new library trends.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work harmoniously with library patrons and our team members.
  • Be able to recognize and set priorities and to use initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons, user groups, community organizations, and volunteer groups 
  • BCCLS and Polaris LEAP experience preferred, but not required.

Schedule:

The schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, including a regular evening and a Saturday on a rotating basis.

Librarian 3- Branch Librarian, Cape May County Library April 16, 2024

Full Time: 35 hours a week, including a rotating night and weekend shift.

Salary Range: $56,000-$66,00

The Cape May County Library is looking for a motivated and team-oriented Librarian to manage the Lower Township Library. The Branch Librarian is responsible for supervising the staff of the Lower Township Library, overseeing circulation activity at the branch, and overseeing the general use and upkeep of the library building. The Branch Manager is also responsible for providing Circulation and Reference services to patrons, and managing an assigned section of the library’s nonfiction collection. The successful candidate demonstrates excellent customer service skills, and an understanding of management techniques and practices. This position will require knowledge of and comfort with supervising staff and working harmoniously with other library departments and patrons. This is a NJ Civil Service position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages day to day operations and upkeep of the Lower Township Library, including providing leadership, coaching, and direction to employees
  • Supervises branch staff, assigning tasks, and assuring coverage with the assistance of the Desk Manager
  • Follows established Library and County policies and procedures, and enforces them with subordinate staff
  • Consults with Library Administration with issues involving human resources and policies
  • Maintains the staff schedule, approving paid time off and liaising with the Payroll Department
  • Provides Circulation and Reference assistance to patrons, including reader’s advisory, and supervises staff in these activities
  • Provides Circulation Desk services, including checking in and out library materials, placing items on hold for patrons, and collecting payments for fines and fees
  • Manages the assigned areas of the Cape May County Library collection, and works with librarians maintaining other collections to ensure the library has an up-to-date and relevant collection
  • Provides training and instruction in the effective use of electronic and print resources for the library staff and patrons
  • Support programming and outreach efforts in branch and surrounding area, including promoting to patrons in the branch and working with departments to provide programming that supports community needs

Knowledge/ Skills 

  • Two years of librarian experience
  • Some supervisory experience or knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of the theories, objectives, principles and techniques of librarianship
  • Conducts effective reference interviews
  • Ability to achieve proficiency in the Library’s Polaris ILS
  • Competency with using the Internet, library OPAC, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Cultural competence skills
  • Excellent customer service skills

Abilities

  • Communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain professional, positive, and cooperative working relationships with other staff members and departments

  • New Jersey state residency required per N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70)
