Librarian I (Youth Programming) Position at East Orange Public Library February 29, 2024

The East Orange Public Library (EOPL) is seeking an enthusiastic professional to support the vision of a busy multicultural urban library that is dedicated to making a difference in the community.  We value diversity, initiative, creativity, flexibility, teamwork and are committed to service excellence. 

This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic professional who loves working with the public. Position includes evenings and Saturdays. 37 ½ hour work week.

The Children’s Department is seeking an enthusiastic, community-oriented, and innovative librarian with strong customer service skills to join our team. Under the supervision of the Head of Children’s Services, the youth programming librarian will be responsible for providing supervision of staff,  reference, readers’ advisory, programming, and technology assistance to children and their caregivers. We are looking for someone with a passion for programming, outreach, and working with youth. Experience with STEM programming, virtual library services, and knowledge of current library trends is highly desired. This position is 37 ½ hours per week, including at least one evening per week and  at least one Saturday per month.   Also, expected to work and may be assigned to other departments in the library or other branch locations based on library needs.

  • Plan and implement virtual, Grab & Go, and in-person (when appropriate) 
    children’s programs for birth through seventh graders including tweens.
  • Outreach and collaboration with schools and community partners
  • Reference and readers’ advisory for adults and children
  • Collection development
  • Cataloging responsibilities

 

Qualifications:

  • Positive, pro-active attitude and ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Master’s degree in information science, Library Service or Library Science is required or MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution. 
  •  NJ Public Library Certification
  • General knowledge of children’s literature
  • Some experience with children’s library programming required.
  • Ability to develop a good rapport with children and caregivers to identify their needs and interests.
  • Familiarity with technology and social media and the ability to adapt to changes in technology.
  • Speak, write and communicate in English effectively.
  • Knowledge of STEM Programming

Salary and Benefits:

EOPL pays the NJLA minimum salary for Full-time Librarian I.

The position offers medical benefits, paid vacation, personal and sick time. The library participates in the State PERS pension plan.

Full-Time Adult Services Librarian at Oradell Free Public Library February 29, 2024

The Oradell Public Library is seeking a full-time energetic and extrovertedindividual to serve as an Adult Services Librarian starting February 2024.

 

The position requires innovation and versatility in helping patrons of all ages as part of a team committed to exceptional patron service and community engagement.  The position requires excellent communication skills, including the ability to help patrons use the library's digital resources on a wide variety of electronic devices.  We are looking for a librarian eager to collaborate on projects with other library staff, and provide outreach to people and organizations within our community.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

Reference and Technology Services

 

  • Answer reference questions from the public and staff of the Library

  • Provide Readers' Advisory 

  • Lead Adult book discussion groups and assist in planning other Adult programming 

  • Plan and conduct basic computer classes, resume writing services, and other job-seeking services

  • Maintain computer hardware and software

Collection Development

 

  • Participate in selecting and ordering Adult fiction books and non-fiction books.

Management

 

  • Oversee circulation services

  • Coordinate connection between reference and circulation services

  • Assist at circulation desk as needed

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Candidate must possess a MLS or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution. Will consider student currently pursuing a MLS or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.

  • Familiarity with Internet resources and MS Office is required

  • Adult services and management experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of the BCCLS system preferred.

 

This position is thirty-five (35) hours per week including one evening and every other Saturday.  Reports to Director.   Salary commensurate with experience.

Adult Services Librarian Part-Time February 28, 2024

Description: 

The Adult Services Part-Time Librarian is responsible for reference and customer service to all ages at both the Kennedy and Westergard Libraries. The Adult Services Department embraces a team approach to support outreach and special projects. 

Responsibilities:

  • Offering assistance to effectively meet the informational needs of users of all ages, by providing reference, readers’ advisory, and computer support while employing a welcoming demeanor 
  • Participates in the formulation, development, and completion of departmental and library-wide objectives
  • Provides instruction on information literacy and technology skills to individuals, visiting groups, and classes as required
  • Representing the library at community events 
  • Participates in collection development
  • Creates and maintains book displays
  • Promotes library services and programs by contributing to the website and social media platforms
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Continuing education to update professional skills and active participation in professional library organizations

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program and NJ Professional Librarian’s Certificate.  Candidates completing their MLS by December 2024 will be considered for the Information Assistant/Library Associate title until degree and certification are received.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: customer service, providing reference and technology assistance, collection development
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff
  • Competency in the use of the latest relevant technology to manage and deliver information services
  • The ability to use library automation software and G-Suite applications

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to sit, stand, walk, and stoop in the provision of services to the public
  • The ability to handle, reach for, and carry materials of up to 20 lbs 
  • Dexterity to operate keyboards and other office equipment

Schedule:

  • 21 hours per week
  • A regular schedule will include at least one evening per week, a rotating weekend day, and a morning and afternoon shift. 

Compensation:

This is a part-time position, $37.98 per hour ($31.99 for MLS matriculated student candidates)

Part Time Adult Services Librarian at Pequannock Library February 26, 2024

The Pequannock Township Public Library has an opening for an exciting opportunity in our Adult Services department. Our well-loved and very busy library is located in a suburban community. 

We’re seeking a forward thinking, enthusiastic, customer service oriented person who thrives in a collaborative environment, to work at our Adult Services information desk.   The right candidate will have public library experience and be familiar with current technologies. Tasks include covering the Adult Services Desk, assisting with adult programming, and assisting with public relations responsibilities.  Plus, other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications include an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and a NJ Professional Librarian Certification or 3 years’ experience in a public library setting. The Gloucester County Library System is  seeking an energetic, service-oriented professional librarian or student enrolled in a library program, who is a youth-services generalist, to serve at the GCLS Mullica Hill Library.   The successful candidate will provide high-quality programming, collection development, and information services to the community.  GCLS seeks a youth services librarian with a passion for youth services and excellent customer service and communication skills.

Job duties require the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and sufficient visual discrimination to be able to read spine labels.  The position may require travel between GCLS Branch libraries.  A valid NJ Driver's License is required.
