DESCRIPTION 

The Burlington County Library System seeks an enthusiastic, service-oriented, and self-motivated individual to join its team. Serving at one of two locations, the Cinnaminson or Pemberton branch, the ideal candidate will bring their knowledge of emerging technologies and a passion for connecting library services and resources to community partner offerings, as they create engaging learning and discovery opportunities for library visitors. Other examples of duties: 

  • Provide outstanding customer service to library visitors on site, via phone, or on our digital channels.
  • Support a suite of technology programs to expand digital fluency and learning capabilities.
  • Host learning and enrichment activities with a special focus on inclusivity for, among others, new Americans, English language learners, and individuals with special needs.
  • Participate in community outreach events, including providing STEM and emerging tech activities at area schools and community partner sites.
  • Schedule and manage on-site community partner programs that bring experts to the library to expand access to learning and enrichment as well as access to community offerings.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS 

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Ability to manage deadlines, organize, and prioritize work independently.
  • Demonstrate collaborative team leadership and work with peers on shared events. 

SCHEDULE

FT Young Adult Services Librarian 1 - Burlington County Library System February 1, 2024

Title: Librarian 1, Young Adult Services, Full-time 
Salary: $57,065 
Locations: County Library/Westampton, Evesham & Pemberton branches

DESCRIPTION 

The Burlington County Library System seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic librarian to join its team. Serving at one of three locations, Burlington County Library, Evesham Library**, or Pemberton Library, this role will provide services to young adults and emerging adults while partnering with local organizations and high schools. The ideal candidate will help strengthen teen engagement with the library, pioneering initiatives around reading and lifelong learning as well as implementing programs to build independence, civic awareness, and leadership skills. This position will require a strong ability to manage deadlines, organize, and prioritize work independently. Some examples of duties:

  • Provide outstanding customer service, reference service, and readers’ advisory; demonstrate knowledge of print and online resources.
  • Design and implement creative programming to facilitate a love of reading and encourage personal growth including but not limited to book talks, volunteer opportunities, and STEM activities such as maker-centered learning and arts & crafts.
  • Prepare curated reading lists, relevant subject bibliographies and/or merchandising displays to promote on-site and online engagement with the library’s collection.
  • Participate in outreach events with area high schools, colleges, and organizations working with this age cohort.
  • Assist with summer reading program, volunteer program, and major initiatives.
  • Assist with collection maintenance tasks, including evaluating materials and collection development.
  • Attend professional conferences, seminars, and workshops; stay updated about professional activities and trends; attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS 

Education: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College. 

License: Obtain a valid NJ license as a Professional Librarian within six (6) month of appointment.

FT Adult Services Librarian - Mahwah Public Library February 1, 2024

The Mahwah Public Library seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic professional to join the team as a full-time Adult Services Librarian.

Under general direction of the Head of Adult Services, the Adult Services Librarian is an integral member of the adult services team with primary responsibility for managing and promoting adult collections, answering reference and informational questions, providing readers advisory services, providing technology assistance, and processing passport applications.  The successful candidate will be passionate about library services, embrace change and have an innovative, forward-thinking vision of how public libraries can best serve their communities in the 21st century.  He or she will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where outstanding customer service is the norm. 

The successful candidate will possess a MLS or comparable degree, a minimum of one year's professional experience a public library or similar setting.  They will be passionate about great customer service in a team-focused environment, have an innovative, forward-thinking vision of how public libraries can best serve their communities in the 21st century and a willingness to embrace change.  The successful candidate must either possess or be able to successfully complete training to receive certification as a passport acceptance agent within two (2) weeks of hire, and possess or be able to successfully complete training to receive certification as a notary public within four (4) weeks of hire.  (The Library will provide release time as needed for certifications.)

This is a 35 hr./wk. position with a starting salary of $64,500.  Some evening and weekend hours are required.  Generous benefits, including medical/dental and paid time off, are included.  Professional growth, including participation in regional professional activities, is encouraged.

The Children’s Services Department at the County Library seeks an enthusiastic, service-oriented, and self-motivated individual to join its team. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of the emerging trends in technology and digital literacy for children. They will provide exemplary customer service by being attentive, approachable, and empathetic while working with people of all ages and backgrounds, specifically children, teens, caregivers, and educators. Other examples of duties:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to library visitors on site, via phone, or on our digital channels.
  • Support a suite of technology programs to expand digital fluency and learning capabilities.
  • Participate in community outreach events, including providing STEM and emerging tech activities at area schools and community partner sites.
  • Assist with children’s events, including but not limited to digital story times, STEM offerings, and programs for babies through pre-school age.

DESCRIPTION 

As part of the Collection Management team that oversees the acquisition, cataloging, access, and day-to-day management of both physical and digital collection items, the Digital Resources Librarian is responsible for all of the digital products and services offered by BCLS. Some examples of duties include:

  • Provide oversight of electronic resources, including but not limited to, monitoring the marketplace for new resources, conducting product trials, managing subscriptions and renewals, troubleshooting issues, launching new products/services.
  • Promote digital collections to customers on-site, through our digital channels as well as via community outreach and presentations.
  • Work with selection team to evaluate, recommend, and purchase digital materials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and keep current with emerging trends, practices, and standards related to electronic resources.
  • Compile statistical reports of digital materials to support electronic resource purchases and renewal decisions.
  • Assist with special projects that support the library’s mission.
  • Participate in professional conferences, seminars, and committees; read professional literature; attend and participate in staff meetings.

PT Executive Assistant to Library Director - Burlington County Library February 1, 2024

Title: Executive Assistant to the Library Director (Clerk 1)

DESCRIPTION 

The Burlington County Library seeks a detail-oriented self-starter to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Library Director. The individual will provide high-level administrative and operational support, including managing Library Commission meetings. Some examples of duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Manage monthly Library Commission meetings, including posting public notices, creating meeting agendas, coordinating with Commissioners, and preparing meeting support documents.
  • Attend Library Commission meetings, take notes, and coordinate actions to be taken post-meeting.
  • Work directly with Director’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, appointments, and other commitments, including off-site and virtual.
  • Prepare and manage correspondence.
  • Exercise discretion in committing time and evaluating needs for Director and Library Commission. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information related to the library and its employees.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize, make decisions, and exhibit sound judgement.
  • Be comfortable interacting with leadership and stakeholders, both within the organization and with outside partners.

Librarian I - Adult Services, Cherry Hill Public Library January 31, 2024

About the Position: 

The Cherry Hill Public Library is seeking to hire a creative, well-read librarian for the Reference & Adult Services Department. We are a state-of-the-art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. The successful candidate will be a responsible and energetic individual ready to keep up within a busy department. 

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Initiate and participate in departmental programming and services such as (but not limited to) the Librarian by Appointment service, our Community Conversations program series, monthly Book Club, and other stand-alone events. 

• Selecting adult fiction and/or non-fiction material as part of the collection development group. • Staffing the adult Reference Desk as scheduled. 

• Serve as coordinator of the Adult Summer Reading Program. 

• Work with other staff to coordinate the Seed Library. 

• Research, identify, apply, and manage grants that create or support library mission, materials, and services. 

• Manage various aspects of the CHPL website and assist in running collection reports. 

Knowledge and Abilities: 

• Knowledge of current trends and practices in adult services, literature and materials. 

• Familiarity with serving adults of all abilities. 

• Ability to understand and apply library filing and classification systems. 

• Physical stamina is required to put away materials, push and pull loaded book carts and other library equipment and materials. Physical activity includes, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting as well as periods of standing, mobility, stretching, bending and stooping. 

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 

• Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus. Ability to learn the library POS systems: Koha, SAM, Tech Logic, and others. 

• Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues, librarians, supervisors and with adult and juvenile patrons of the library. 

• Ability to understand the importance of following established procedures and regulations. 

• Ability to work and perform tasks without supervision. 

Qualifications: 

• Must have a master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university 

• Experience providing reference and reader’s advisory services 

• Strong communication and customer service skills 

• Knowledge of print and digital general knowledge resources 

• Ability to work both independently and within a team 

• Teaching or computer instruction experience a plus 

• Strong technology skills and general comfort with learning new technology 

• Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus 

• Successfully pass a criminal background check 

• New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), if selected for the position 

Schedule: This is a full time (35 hours a week) position with one weeknight and rotating Saturdays and Sundays required. 

About the Library: The Cherry Hill Public Library is the largest municipal library in the southern New Jersey area. The Library is open seven days a week and is operation Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 32 Sundays a year. * Subject to change.
