The Cliffside Park Public Library, located in Bergen County, is seeking a friendly, inventive, and vibrant candidate for the position of Teen/Tween Services Librarian. Our Library is located in a suburban community of nearly 27,000 and is a part of the BCCLS consortium.

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor, the Teen/Tween Services Assistant Librarian is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Teen Service area. Other responsibilities include programming, collection development and outreach to youth, from 10 to 17 years in age, reader’s advisory, maintaining a friendly and relevant environment in the department, and advocating for teen/tween services to the community at large.

Youth Services Supervisor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Planning, executing, and marketing of teen/tween programming 
- Promote library services by using social media and creating flyers
- Within the Teen Department and if needed at the Youth Services desk; provide general reference, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance to all patrons
- Start and maintain a Teen Advisory Board
- Develop and keep a working knowledge of young adult print and electronic materials to make purchasing decisions
- Create relationships with the teens/tweens of the community
- Establish and maintain relationships with the public schools of the community
- Collaborate with the public schools to visit their classrooms both virtually and in-person
- Be aware of current technology trends
- Attend regular professional development
- Communicate regularly with other departments within the library
- Support and contribute to overall library mission
- Various duties as assigned including basic circulation services

Education, Experience and Training:

- MLS with NJ Professional Librarian Certificate or must be currently enrolled in an MLS accredited program
- Experience working with youth is a plus but not required.
- Current knowledge of library trends and innovations.
- BCCLS experience, if any, should be highlighted (please indicate if served or are currently serving on BCCLS committees)

 

Certification and Residency Requirements:

New Jersey State Professional Librarian Certificate preferred. Candidates in-process of obtaining the MIS/MLIS degree and/or those holding or in-process of obtaining a professional teaching certification/school media specialist certification will also be considered.

The library adheres to residency rules established by the New Jersey First Act and the Borough of Cliffside Park.

Position Hours:

The hours will vary and will not exceed more than 20 hours per week [Monday – Saturday]. The position requires the applicant to have open availability (weeknights and Saturdays) in order to successfully work a varied schedule. Sunday availability is also desirable.

Salary and Benefit Information:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications. The library offers a rate schedule for Monday through Saturday and a separate rate schedule for Sundays. The position offers paid sick days accruable in accordance with the State of New Jersey’s Paid Sick Leave Law (PSLA). This is a non-Civil Service, non-union position.
