Job Title: Youth Services Librarian

About Us:
We are a suburban library with an enthusiastic public. We are looking for an energetic person to enhance our youth services programs and continue our involved presence in the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years of previous experience in a library (preferably public)
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-Accredited program, or current MLIS student nearing the completion of degree from an accredited school
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The Youth Services Librarian works under the direction of the library Director. The Youth Services Librarian assumes responsibility for library in absence of the Director.
- Assists circulation staff with daily responsibilities as needed
- Responsible for juvenile material collection development, including selection, weeding, and cataloging.
- Responsible for all programs and services to children and teens. (babies – grade 12).
- Responsible for the assigned youth services budget.
- Provides children’s reference service and back-up adult reference.
- Prepares monthly statistics for the Children’s Department.
- Performs outreach and partners with Fairfield & West Essex Regional schools, recreation department, and various community organizations.
- Organizes and prepares seasonal, thematic, or subject specific displays/decorations to make Children’s Room inviting.
- Prepares and creates all children’s room publicity and updates to the library website and social media.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises each year’s Summer Reading program.
- Attends professional meetings and workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as needed.
HOURS:
Full-Time (35 hours per week). Schedule will vary and includes evenings and Saturdays.
