The Union City Public Library is seeking a Part-Time Library Assistant to perform a variety of
routine nonprofessional library tasks.

General tasks may include:
● Charge and discharge library materials to users
● Answer patron questions regarding library hours, programs, and library services
● Complete online query and locate library items on the shelf
● Provide basic computer assistance to library patrons
● Perform filing or shelving tasks involving the use of the Dewey Decimal Classification
System and alphabet filing systems beyond the initial letter of a word

Knowledge and Abilities
● Ability to perform extensive alphabetizing beyond the first letter of a word.
● Ability to converse, speaking clearly, concisely, and courteously.
● Ability to comprehend and follow written and/or oral one-or-two step instructions.
● Ability to perform numerical filing beyond the initial digit of a sequence of figures.
● Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to
perform the duties of this position.
● Priority will be given to bilingual applicants. Applicants must be able to read, write,
speak, understand, or communicate in Spanish and English sufficiently to perform the
duties of this position.
● Must be able to work at least one evening a week and weekends
