Information Assistant—Information Services

Part-time: 21 hours per week

Schedule: Saturdays, one weekday evening, daytime hours

Hourly rate: $19.50

 

The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.

 

Our Library is embarking on an $8.6 million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations will include a new auditorium, state-of-the art meeting room, an expanded Teen Room, group study rooms, an instruction lab and more.

 

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking a positive, dependable, customer service-oriented individual to join our staff as a part-time Information Assistant. As part of the Information Services Department and reporting to the Head of Information Services, the individual in this role is responsible for providing reference service and instruction to the South Brunswick community. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively instruct patrons how to use library resources, assist with finding books and placing holds, troubleshoot basic computer issues, and plan and execute library programs. Assisting with maintaining the collection, such as recording keeping and displays, are also part of the primary job responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a four year college
  • Ability to speak, write and communicate in English effectively
  • Ability to identify, customize and present innovative programs
  • Comfortable working with technology and a diverse population

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with customer service or public libraries
  • Knowledge of SIRSI/Workflows
  • Experience with instruction planning and promotion
  • Fluency in another language other than English
