Title: Part-Time Program Assistant

Compensation: Commensurate with experience; minimum $21.93 per hour

Location: Teaneck Public Library, Multi-Department, primarily Reference Department

 

The Teaneck Public Library is seeking an energetic and customer-service oriented individual to join the Library. The successful applicant should have a demonstrated capacity to deal effectively and courteously with the public and to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. The position requires the knowledge of social media trends and flexibility to assist and provide support to other staff members running library programs for various age groups.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with coordinating and administering programs for all age groups, in multiple departments.
  • Assist in preparing publicity for programs and services.
  • Assist with developing newsletter and social media on various platforms by creating engaging content and marketing materials.
  • Welcome the public at the service desk by offering reader’s advisory help and program registration when necessary.
  • Support outreach efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Welcoming demeanor,  including friendliness, cooperation, creativity, patience, and enthusiasm. 
  • Strong written and oral communication and customer relation skills.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and with co-workers.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute work, both independently and with direction.
  • Creativity and proficiency in social media platforms, internet, email, and other software applications.
  • Organizational skills with good attention to detail.
  • A team player with the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with library staff and community members.
  • Flexibility to work in and with other departments.
  • College degree or library experience is a plus.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Light lifting and bending required. Strong computer skills required. Library experience (especially within BCCLS) desired but not required. Appointee may be required to possess a valid driver's license. Initial appointment is provisional. The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass Civil Service requirements, in addition to a criminal background check. 

SCHEDULE:

Schedule consists of approximately 20-24 hours per week, with a regular evening and occasional weekend schedule.  Work schedule is subject to change according to the needs of the library. The hours are:

  • Monday: 9 am - 5 pm
  • Tuesday: 1 pm - 6 pm
  • Thursday: 1 pm - 6 pm
  • Friday:  9 am - 5 pm
