The Dover Free Public Library seeks a friendly, positive, self-starting, community service-oriented person to join our team.

The person in this position not only assists in the various clerical tasks required for library operations, such as keeping accounts complete, posting entries, reviewing purchasing documentation, and ordering materials/supplies but will also provide service to the community at our main service desk with duties such as checking out materials, issuing library cards, unpacking/packing materials for delivery, to name a few. Due to the nature of the duties, this position does require and expect confidentiality and diplomacy.

As we are a small team, flexibility, ability to work independently and a  sense of humor are required.  Understanding the unique aspects of our community and being willing to provide that little ‘extra’ is important. 

The schedule for this position is Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10a - 3p and participation in the Saturday rotation, which is approximately one/month. There is some flexibility with the schedule. Sick leave is in accordance with NJ State requirements, and there is limited holiday leave. Starting compensation for this position is $26.05/hour. Note there is a 90 day probationary period as this is a civil service position.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, some college preferred
  • US Citizen
  • Proficient using Quick Books
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Must have initiative, be self motivated and work independently

Recommended (but not required) qualifications:

  • Background working in a library or retail setting
  • Foreign language proficiency, particularly Spanish
