The Trenton Free Public Library is seeking a Librarian 2 to supervise the Adult Services Department. With a dedicated staff, a new director and a renovation currently taking place in the Adult Services Room this position presents an excellent opportunity for a collaborative, self-motivated candidate to bring their vision to the library’s Adult Services Department. The successful candidate should have strong customer service skills, show initiative, consideration, flexibility and efficiency. The successful candidate will bring new ideas and innovation to the Trenton Free Public Library.

 

In addition to supervising the department this position includes active involvement in providing services that may include one or more of the following: reference, programming, communications, collection development and outreach to a diverse community. 

 

Examples of duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Scheduling adult services staff and the Reference desk schedule.
  • Coordinate, arrange and implement adult programming (in-person, passive, and virtual) and its promotion.
  • Assist patrons of all ages with information and technology needs. 
  • Keep and report statistics.
  • Train new adult services staff.
  • Participate in collection development activities.
  • Serve as moderator for virtual programs as needed.
  • Seek out and participate in outreach activities.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the adult summer reading program.
  • Develop department goals to improve/implement/expand service to the city.

 

This position is a full-time, 35-hour per week position and includes at least one evening per week and Saturdays in rotation. 

 

An MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and a New Jersey Librarian’s Certification are required. A full job description can be found on the State of New Jersey Civil Service Commission website. This title is covered under Civil Service rules and regulations and Union contract. The current salary range for the position is $70,639 to $82,794. Full-time employees get sick, personal and vacation time, and are eligible to receive holiday pay according to contract.
