About the position: The Cherry Hill Public Library is seeking to hire a creative and energetic librarian for our Youth Services Department. We are a state of the art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a demonstrated commitment to youth services. Excellent customer service skills with a focus on providing patrons with a positive experience are necessary. Duties will include (but are not limited to):

 Designing and facilitating educational programming for children ages birth-12 including weekly story times, school age programming and summer reading.

 Providing reader’s advisory and reference services explaining the use and availability of reference sources in all appropriate formats including research databases.

 Organizing and conducting school and community outreach as well as in-house school and community visits.

 Selecting children’s fiction and non-fiction and managing portions of the collection as part of the Youth Services collection development team.

 Collaborating with colleagues to support department processes and goals.

 Maintains current knowledge of organizational procedures, processes, policies and operations.

 Staffing the Youth Services reference and circulation desk as scheduled.

 Retrieving holds from the collection, putting carts of books in order and shelving materials. Strong organizational skills necessary for efficient execution of tasks including sorting, alphabetizing, and staging book carts.

Knowledge and Abilities:

 Knowledge of current trends and practices in children’s services, literature and materials.

 Familiarity with youth development and learning stages as well as serving youth of all abilities.

 Ability to understand and apply library filing and classification systems.

 Physical stamina is required to put away materials, push and pull loaded book carts and other library equipment and materials. Physical activity includes, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting as well as periods of standing, mobility, stretching, bending and stooping.

 Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

 Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus. Ability to learn the library POS systems: Koha, SAM, Tech Logic, and others.

 Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues, librarians, supervisors and with adult and juvenile patrons of the library.

 Ability to understand the importance of following established procedures and regulations.

 Ability to work and perform tasks without supervision. Minimum Qualifications:

 Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university.

 Successfully pass a criminal background check.

 New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), if selected for the position.

 Mandatory direct deposit. Schedule: This is a full time (35 hours per week) position with one weeknight and rotating Saturdays and Sundays required. Work schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the library.

About the Library:

The Cherry Hill Public Library is the largest municipal library in the southern New Jersey area. The library is open seven days a week and is in operation Monday through Wednesday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 32 Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
