Librarian 1 – New Jersey State Library Information Center
This entry level, union represented position provides lots of opportunity to grow and develop your reference and research skills by working with all three branches of state government; students, staff and mentors of Thomas Edison State University; New Jersey public libraries; and the general public. On a regular basis you will provide research assistance across many subject areas including business, New Jersey history, law, and more. You will have the opportunity to prepare programs and training classes for all levels of library users. Serving as a collection specialist, you may be identifying, ordering and maintaining print and electronic resources. You will also help grow our digital collections by adding content to our digital repository. You should be tech savvy and thrive with the use of digital tools.

Here are examples of the type of work you might do:
- Provide reference service to all the communities served by the New Jersey State Library, using the full range of print and electronic resources available
- Create basic bibliographic records for digital content and uploads documents to the digital repository
- Identify, order and maintain print and electronic resources in subject specific areas
- Participate in digital projects to promote unique library collection
- Develop training and presentation materials to instruct users on print and electronic collections
- Creatively engage users with research guides to enhance discoverability of resources
- Take responsibility for budget of assigned collections
- Prepare reports for users and administrators
Requirements:
Education: A Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.
License: Possession of or eligibility for a valid New Jersey certification as a Professional Librarian.
