Librarian I - Adult Services, Cherry Hill Public Library | January 31, 2024 | Filing Deadline: Friday, February 16, 2024 Full Time Union Position Hours: 35 hours per week | Salary: $52,403 About the Position: The Cherry Hill Public Library is seeking to hire a creative, well-read librarian for the Reference & Adult Services Department. We are a state-of-the-art library in a thriving and diverse suburban community. The successful candidate will be a responsible and energetic individual ready to keep up within a busy department. Duties will include (but are not limited to): • Initiate and participate in departmental programming and services such as (but not limited to) the Librarian by Appointment service, our Community Conversations program series, monthly Book Club, and other stand-alone events. • Selecting adult fiction and/or non-fiction material as part of the collection development group. • Staffing the adult Reference Desk as scheduled. • Serve as coordinator of the Adult Summer Reading Program. • Work with other staff to coordinate the Seed Library. • Research, identify, apply, and manage grants that create or support library mission, materials, and services. • Manage various aspects of the CHPL website and assist in running collection reports. Knowledge and Abilities: • Knowledge of current trends and practices in adult services, literature and materials. • Familiarity with serving adults of all abilities. • Ability to understand and apply library filing and classification systems. • Physical stamina is required to put away materials, push and pull loaded book carts and other library equipment and materials. Physical activity includes, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting as well as periods of standing, mobility, stretching, bending and stooping. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. • Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus. Ability to learn the library POS systems: Koha, SAM, Tech Logic, and others. • Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues, librarians, supervisors and with adult and juvenile patrons of the library. • Ability to understand the importance of following established procedures and regulations. • Ability to work and perform tasks without supervision. Qualifications: • Must have a master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university • Experience providing reference and reader’s advisory services • Strong communication and customer service skills • Knowledge of print and digital general knowledge resources • Ability to work both independently and within a team • Teaching or computer instruction experience a plus • Strong technology skills and general comfort with learning new technology • Knowledge of Koha ILS a plus • Successfully pass a criminal background check • New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), if selected for the position Schedule: This is a full time (35 hours a week) position with one weeknight and rotating Saturdays and Sundays required. Librarian 1 - New Jersey State Library Information Center | January 30, 2024 | The New Jersey State Library Information Center is seeking a service-oriented librarian, with a strong commitment to information organization and access, to join the Technical Services unit. This is a union represented, entry level position and is ideal for a new librarian with great tech skills. Primary responsibilities include original and copy cataloging using Horizon, OCLC, MarcEdit and other tools as needed; creating authority records; and working with MARC metadata in all formats as needed to support the New Jersey State Library’s collections. Responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to, uploading digitized items to the appropriate repositories, and adding and updating content on the Library’s web pages. The person in this position may also work with a team to develop research guides; create and present webinars, tutorials, and classes on library resources and services; conduct library tours; promote library services and collections; and participate in other special projects as assigned. Responsibilities: -Performs original and complex copy cataloging using Horizon, OCLC, MarcEdit, RDA, LCSH, LCC, and other tools as needed. Works with MARC metadata in all formats and subjects as needed to support the New Jersey State Library’s collections -Creates authority records at the national level -Manages bibliographic authority control processes using Horizon, DSpace, OCLC, and other tools as needed to ensure the internal consistency of the Libraries’ bibliographic databases and digital repository platforms. -Oversees quality control for bibliographic and authority metadata. Analyzes potential corrections and executes batch changes to manage and update bibliographic, holdings, and item data -Maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in identity management and authority metadata, including linked data, BIBFRAME, and semantic web developments -Creates and maintains documentation for areas of responsibility -Participates in appropriate professional development, continuing education, national-level professional service, or research activities -Performs related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-Master's degree in librarianship, or related field -Familiarity with the processes of creating bibliographic and authority metadata -Familiarity with metadata format and content standards, including RDA and MARC21 -Familiarity with authority control processes -Knowledge of current trends in metadata and cataloging standards and technologies -Awareness of and interest in emerging technologies, including linked data
