The NJLA Diversity & Outreach Section invites all library workers and community partners to attend a FREE unconference where you will leave feeling energized and excited to serve your community in new and inclusive ways.

The Breaking Down Barriers Unconference, co-sponsored by LibraryLinkNJ, The New Jersey State Library, and NJLA, will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Elizabeth Public Library, in Elizabeth, NJ.

All voices and experiences are welcome, as participants are invited to propose discussion sessions on topics including but not limited to:

  • serving underserved communities
  • improving access
  • services for unhoused patrons
  • diversity, equity & inclusion
  • outreach services

Our keynote address will be delivered by Rev. Dr. Anthony Forbes, Manager of The Hoboken Shelter, Founder of Street Life Ministry, and Commissioner on the Hoboken Housing Authority Board of Commissioners in Hoboken, NJ.

In addition to proposed discussions, we will offer a workshop session with topics including:

  • Putting Patrons First: Imagining a Fine Free Future with Library Cards for All
  • What’s Up With WhatsApp? Meeting Your International Community Where They Are
  • Libraries Save Lives: Harm Reduction Tools as Information Technology
