You are not limited to applying your subsidy to the programs on this list. We provide this information as helpful suggestions.

  • If you choose from this list, LLNJ has already negotiated standard speaking fee pricing for LLNJ member libraries.
  • When discussing the program with the consultant/vendor, tell them that this is potentially an LLNJ subsidized program and if your request for a subsidy is approved, the negotiated standard speaking fee applies.

These programs are with consultants we know and have worked with successfully. The program descriptions are largely for programs 3 hours in length. Most can be customized for length and to meet the specific needs of your participants. Check each to see if there is a special note about length and audience.

Training Techniques  
All workshops are designed to be interactive. Some may require “hands-on” and others may be a combination of lecture, demonstration, and group discussion. You need to inquire of the training consultant which techniques they employ.

Audience  
Most programs are designed to be for all library staff. Where it is recommended that the content is best for specific types or sets of staff, it is so noted.


List of Professional Development Consultants:

Leslin Charles - Leslin H. Charles has a special interest in student engagement, metacognition, information literacy, and assessment of student learning. At Rutgers University, Leslin leads the libraries’ efforts to develop pedagogically sound learning experiences and appropriate assessment strategies in collaboration with librarians, teaching faculty, and relevant campus partners. She teaches a Byrne Seminar for first year students called Truth or Fiction? In 2015, through the ACRL Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success program, she developed a longitudinal study of library impact on student learning with special focus on students in the McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program

CAM Consulting Group LLC - A full-service HR consulting and training firm which has been specializing in professional development and organization growth since 1993. Claudia Monte is the primary consultant/owner who has been privileged to share her expertise with clients across the country in the library, legal, biopharmaceutical, public, and private sectors. She specializes in coaching individuals to strengthen their Emotional Intelligence (EI/EQ) in the various facets of their personal and professional lives. She is a facilitator/coach with the MicroEnterprise Institute of SWFL Goodwill and recently completed a five-year term as an arbitrator with the Florida State Attorney General Motor Vehicle Arbitration Board. Joanne P. Roukens - Joanne P. Roukens served as the Assistant Director for LibraryLinkNJ, The New Jersey Library Cooperative (LLNJ) in Piscataway, NJ from 2010-2019. Previously she was the Executive Director of the Highlands Regional Library Cooperative (HRLC) in Denville, NJ. Joanne was with the Morris County Library (Whippany, NJ) for 14 years. She has earned a Certificate in Training from the New Jersey Department of Personnel and was the co-coordinator of the New Jersey Train-the-Trainers Program from 2001-2005. Joanne was NJLA's 2007 Librarian of the Year. She received the President’s Award from the New Jersey Association of School Librarians in 2017. Joanne is an engaging, experienced and in-demand trainer and conducts workshops on customer service and presentation skills, and is also an experienced meeting facilitator. Lourdes Tango - A training consultant experienced in designing and facilitating programs in cross-cultural communication and diversity topics. Originally from Cuba, Lourdes has collaborated with a wide variety of clients to design and facilitate programs that empower individuals and teams to create an environment of inclusion by leveraging the value of diversity within their organizations. Lourdes is fluent in English and Spanish and uses both languages so frequently that she used to have a bilingual parrot.

Jessica Trujillo - Jessica is a former NJLA President, and was a 2008 ALSC sponsored ALA Emerging Leader. She has held positions as a young adult and children's librarian. She received her B.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle and M.L.I.S. from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.

Karen Vaias - Karen Vaias has worked in NJ libraries for more than twenty years, as both a paraprofessional and a degreed librarian. She is currently the Supervising Reference Librarian at Bernards Township Library in Basking Ridge, NJ. She has presented at NJLA Annual Conferences and the Statewide Train the Trainer series and is active in State and Consortia committee work.

Hilda Weisburg - A former school librarian with over 30 years of experience in school libraries, K-12, she is also the author most recently of Leading for School Librarians: There is No Other Option (ALS 2017). She also co-authored Being Indispensable: A School Librarian’s Guide to Becoming an Invaluable Leader (ALA Editions, 2010), and New on the Job: A School Librarian’s Guide to Success, 2nd ed. (ALA Editions 2015). She is the recipient of AASL’s 2016 Distinguished Service Award.
